The decorations are only just back in the box, 2016 has barely begun and the regional season is already underway, with the first Double Mini-Trampoline (DMT) competition taking place at Starlight TC in Romsey. Four members from Alton competed, and for both Clare Brewer and for Jonty this was their first experience of a DMT event.
Despite only training on the DMT for a couple of months, both Jonty and Claire performed their passes well. Claire’s scores meant that she achieved the qualifying score for the Regional Team Qualifier at the end of February, while Jonty narrowly missed out on this by touching the side pad on one of his passes. He came back strong though, and stuck his somersault on his follow-up pass.
Katherine and Hattie were both following up their successful performances on the DMT last year, and they both started the season well, successfully completed all of their passed and hitting the scores required for qualification.
Claire, Jonty, Hattie and Katherine all came away with medals from the event. Four medals and three qualifiers meant that it was a great start to the season for the gymnasts and for the club, and hopefully a sign of things to come!
Congratulations to Clare Wakely, who has recently passed her recent judging exams, meaning she is now qualified at County level in both Trampolining and Double Mini-Trampoline.
Learning how to judge is interesting and greatly helps to understand how competition routines are marked and what is looked out for when performing skills. If any club member or parent is interested in taking a judging qualification then please feel free to contact us. In the meantime, well done Clare for passing her recent assessments!
Terrible pun aside, members from Alton Trampoline Club had great success in the Southern Regional Schools round on the Isle of Wight!
11 of our members, along with support from Sylvia, Andy, Lee and James, took the ferry to the island with five of them coming away with medals and qualifying for the next round!
Brothers Robert and Alex were following up on their success in last years’ competition and competed in the Disability Novice category. Both continued their success by coming away with gold medals in their age groups for Perins and Sun Hill Junior School.
Three pupils from Medstead Primary all competed in the Novice section. While both Jasmine and Molly had a wobble in one of their routines, they both composed themselves to score 7s in their other routine. For Elliot this was the largest competition he had ever competed in, and he produced two solid performances to secure 10th place.
Amery Hill also had three pupils in three different groups. Courtney came 25th in the Novice U14s, while both Scott and Katherine came 3rd in the Intermediate and Elite U14s respectively and qualified through to the Zonal competition.
Scarlett (Four Marks Primary) came 3rd in the Novice U11s to gain her first ever Schools’ podium place and secure a place in the Zonal competition. Eloise (Ditcham Park) and Chloe (Sparsholt College) also produced some strong routines to finish 10th and 6th in their respective groups.
Congratulations to all of those who qualified to compete in the Zonal round taking place in January, joining Federica who qualified from the South-East regional.

We held our annual Intra-Club competition on Sunday 6th December. Open to both recreational and squad members, we had over 40 members demonstrating the skills that they have been learning and competing in routines across a broad range of levels.
For some this was their first experience of a competition, and they had the opportunity to both compete and to watch some of the more experienced gymnasts compete the more complex routines. After all of the individual routines, all members were invited to try the Synchronised Trampolining competition (which included some guest performances from some of the coaches!).
It was a hugely enjoyable afternoon and culminated in the awards for Most Improved and Highest Scores of the Day and Year. The full results can be found at the bottom of this article, our results video. along with The highlights video will be uploaded soon.
The annual awards went to:
Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to all of the coaches and helpers who assisted to make the event a success!

Congratulations to two of our members who both came away as winners at Trampoline competitions held on Sunday 29th November.
Federica, along with her family and coach Clare, made the journey up to Gillingham to compete in the Southern Regional round of the British Schools Trampoline Championships. Federica was competing for Stepping Stones School and did a great job of representing them as she performed in the Under 19s Disability Novice category. Despite a couple of extra jumps, she completed all of her skills and came away with the gold medal as well as qualifying through to take part in the Zonal round in January.
At the same time as this, Ben was taking part in the “I’m In” Gymnastics event at Basingstoke Gymnastics Club. The event was aimed at gymnasts who were new to disability competitions and for Ben this was his first ever competition on the Trampoline. Supported by coaches Andy and Lee, Ben gave a terrific performance and came away with a gold medal for his efforts, which he proudly got to show off at training later that evening!
Two wonderful results – well done to both Federica and Ben!
On Sunday 6th December, from 2 – 4.30pm we will be hosting our annual Alton Trampoline Club Intra-Club Championships. This is open to all members of the club (& parents should they wish to get involved!) and we are happy for members to compete both individually and in the synchronised event.
The event is designed to encourage participation so all levels are available to try. It’s always a fun event and is great to see as many people there as possible supporting each other. It will also be brilliant to see as many members as possible in their ATC kit.
We will also be presenting our annual awards for the Most Improved members, and the highest scores achieved both on the day and from throughout the year.
Members are encouraged to email us if they would like to take part.
We look forward to seeing you all there!

To celebrate the Alton Trampoline Club’s 25th anniversary we are holding a party at Alton Maltings Centre on Saturday 14th November, from 4pm to 10pm.
We would love to see new and old members, so anyone who has ever been involved with us at any point in the last quarter of a century(!) is invited to come along and celebrate this amazing achievement for a voluntary sports club!
We look forward to seeing you there!!!
At 11am on Tuesday 3rd November Alton Trampoline Club celebrated 25 years since its very first session!
Founded by Sylvia Comber back in 1990, the club is still going strong today. We would like to thank to members, coaches, committee, and every single one of the volunteers that have contributed over the past quarter of a century – all have been influential in making the club such a success, and it would not have been possible without them.
It’s a wonderful achievement with so many people being able to try and enjoy the sport of Trampolining, making new friends and learning new skills. There have been highs and lows, and so many personal achievements, whether it is just the confidence to get on the trampoline or becoming a Champion. The Chairmen we have had have all been enthusiastic and terrific in moving the club forwards. We have had coaches develop with us: some have stayed, some have even moved on to run their own clubs. We have had members receive awards for volunteering – both at junior and senior level. Sylvia herself was rewarded for her dedication and impact by being selected to carry the Olympic Torch back in 2012.
We are continuing to build on the foundations laid over the years and this has seen us win the East Hampshire Club of the Year in 2014 as well as having a British Champion this year. Sylvia, still heavily involved, joyfully said “a very very big thank you for all your support over the last 25 years”.
Here’s to another 25 years!
Alton Trampoline Club attended a local competition, hosted by Swallows Trampoline Club, with both Individual Novice levels & a Synchronised event taking place.
20 members from the club made the short trip, which saw them come away with 8 medals between them all. For some, such as Reuben and Ella, it was their first experience of a Trampoline competition, and they handled the occasion very well.
There were a few notable results, including Scott winning his NDP3 group, along with Hattie & Katherine winning the exciting Synchronised Trampolining event. Molly, Reuben, Federica, Emily & Becky all won medals at the competition, with Zaki doing incredibly well to come 4th after not being able to train his routine in the weeks leading up to the event.
There was great support shown by the other competitors and coaches and there was great comradery shown between all of the clubs involved. Well done to everyone who took part, from our club and others, and thank you to Swallows for hosting the event.
