Alton Trampoline Club is celebrating as Stuart Sharpe retains his crown and comes away a winner at the 2016 British Championship!
Stuart was competing in the Disability Trampoline Category 1 Mens event and was attempting to emulate his success from 2015 where he was a winner in the same category. Having come first in both of the qualifying events earlier in the year, there was an expectation as Stuart took his place on the trampoline. In the Final though, everyone started from scratch and had one routine in which to impress the judges by performing 10-skill routine.
Stuart was attempting to compete the most difficult routine he had ever competed as he began his Final routine. Hearts were in mouths as his first skill, a piked half-out, headed towards the end of the trampoline, but he held firm and brought his subsequent skills back to the middle of the bed to successfully complete the routine. His scores earned him the highest total in his group and Stuart had become a two-time champion!
A relieved but delighted coach, Sylvia, exclaimed “could have done without giving me more grey hairs! Words cannot describe how proud I am”.
The standard of the category has improved significantly over the past year, with a number of competitors all performing double somersaults in their routines as well. It’s a great testament to all of the gymnasts and their coaches, and the support shown to each other by gymnasts, coaches, and families of those competing in the Disability Trampoline category is fantastic.
For Stuart, he has continued to work harder to improve and learn more difficult skills since last years’ accomplishment, and it is great that he has been rewarded with this success! Congratulations Stuart!

We are delighted to announce that Alton Trampoline Club have been signed off as an INclusive Club, one of the first 10 in the country!
I’M IN is British Gymnastics’ Disability Programme, which aims to create more participation opportunities for more disabled people in Gymnastics. The accreditation is evidence to show that Alton Trampoline Club has put in some great steps in place towards inclusivity and we are delighted that this has been recognised.
This is a major achievement for us, and demonstrates the opportunities that we are able to offer and the efforts of those involved at the club.

While Wales were celebrating a historic football victory in the Euros, another sporting event was taking place over the weekend of June 25th & 26th, as Cardiff played host to the 2nd National Trampoline League event of the year.
Two members from Alton traveled over the River Severn, with both Chloe and Pete competing in the League 3 category.
It was an early start for Chloe, whose family traveled across that morning for an 8:30am start. Chloe was then successful in completing both of her routines and improved upon her position from the League event a couple of months earlier, with a very respectable 19th place, earning her more League points in the process. She has continued to improve as the year has gone on which is great to see.
Pete took his place on the trampoline in the afternoon and completed a solid Compulsory routine. Unfortunately he suffered a blip and stopped during his Voluntary routine which saw his score marked out of 6. It is all good experience and Pete will learn much from only his second ever National competition.
Well done to both competitors and thanks to the Sports Wales National Centre and the organisers for running the event.
Full results from the event can be found on this link or The Trampoline League website.
The Summer is underway as Alton Trampoline Club held its annual Barbecue down at Alice Holt Forest on June 18th.
It was a lovely afternoon with many members, families & pets coming along to socialise, play games, and of course utilise the barbecue! Despite some dodgy-looking clouds, the weather held firm with the Sun finally coming out strong just in time for the now customary Adults vs Children Rounders contest (which saw the Adults retain their crown).
There will be more social events in the future for our club members and families. Here’s hoping the Sun continues to shine for everyone this Summer!
Katherine and Hattie finished a successful week of Trampolining for them both by coming away with Gold medals at the Southern Regional Novice & Synchro competition this past weekend.
Having qualified the previous week to compete individually at the National Finals, the girls joined up to compete as a pair in the exciting Synchronised Trampolining event. Excellent scores, all over 9.0, for synchronicity in their Compulsory routine helped them to secure 1st place in the Under 15s group.
As well as the Synchro, Alton members were also competing in the Individual Novice section. Sisters Federica and Elena both won trophies, coming 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Trampolinists with Disabilities category.
There were a few sets of siblings taking part, as Oliver and Sara were both taking part in their first competition, with Oliver coming 19th and Sara coming 13th after performing an extra jump in her 2nd routine. Additional medals were awarded to competitors at Club Level as well, for those that achieved certain scores for individual routines. Sara was awarded with a medal, since her first routine was one of the highest scoring routines in her group!
Sisters Freya and Jess weren’t able to reproduce the quality of their practice routines when they competed in the Synchro event, however Freya won a medal and achieved 7th place in the individual event. While no podium places, there were medals as well for Molly, Anna, and Milly as well for their performances.
Well done to all of the gymnasts who took part, and thank you to Swallows TC for hosting the event. Full results from the day can be found below, or from our our Downloads section.

Congratulations to Katherine and Hattie, who represented the Southern Region and have qualified for the National NDP Finals in July!
The girls were both competing in Double Mini-Trampoline event at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, having been selected following their performances in the regional events earlier in the year.
Katherine competed at the Over 13s NDP4 category and came 4th. The scoring was close and she was just 0.6 off of 3rd place following her 4 passes.
Hattie competed in the Over 13s NDP3 category and she achieved 5th place, with less than 2 marks separating positions 2nd through to 5th in another close group.
An excellent performance from both girls and congratulations to them both, along with the rest of the Southern Region, for their results over the weekend.
Full results from the event can be found on the British Gymnastics website.
Congratulations to Stuart Sharpe, who took joint 1st Place at the 2nd National Spring Series event of the year.
2015 champion Stuart performed well to come top of his group, ending with exactly the same score as William Morton-Hall of Trafford Trampoline Club, who was new to competing in the National Category 1 section.
The whole group was a good demonstration of the risk vs reward nature of Trampoline competitions. Some competitors opting for much more difficult routines but a greater risk of losing out on ‘execution’ scores, while others went for simpler routines aiming to perform them with greater neatness. This altogether made for an exciting competition!
Stuart’s success, combined with his First Place at the previous Spring Series event, means that he has qualified through to the British Championships taking place at the beginning of July where he will have the opportunity to defend his title.
All of the results from the event can be found on the British Gymnastics website.

2015 British Champion, Stuart Sharpe, kicked off his 2016 season in style as he came first in the opening Spring Series event of the year.
As competitors from around the country descended upon Coventry and the Ricoh Arena. There were some excellent routines throughout the Mens Category 1 group, showing just how hard the gymnasts and their coaches have been working. Stuart showed no signs of nerves, nailing his first routine and taking an early lead. He then pulled out his bigger skills for his second routine and, despite spending a rather unhealthy amount of time at one of end of the trampoline, completed all of his skills to come away with a gold medal and a winning start to his season.
For his family in the audience, and for coach Sylvia, it was a worthwhile trip and they were all thrilled with his performance.
Congratulations to Stuart, and a brilliant start to his season!
Pete Walley can celebrate after coming away with a silver medal when he came 2nd at the first National Trampoline League event of the year.
Pete, who passed his coaching qualifications last year as well, was competing in his first ever National event, and showed enormous composure and concentration to somersault his way into 2nd place in the 19+ Mens League 3 category. Pete completed his most difficult routine to date, and had to perform it three times following his qualification to the Final after the first two rounds. It was a performance he should be proud of, and his coach Andy praised Pete, saying “he has worked so hard leading up to this to get his routine, and this shows what he is capable of”.
Alton also had three other members taking part in the League 3 category, and they too were competing in their first open National event. Katherine and Hattie both finished their routines in the 13-14 Girls, in a huge group consisting of over 60 gymnasts! Chloe gave a good account of herself, improving on her recent performances at Regional level, coming 22nd and securing League points in the 17-18 Ladies group.
Well done to all four of our members, who will take much away from their experience. This looks to be a sign of things to come as we begin to see more of our members start to compete in National events.
