Well done to Clare, who has just recently had her Level 3 Technical Module 3 signed off. Part of the assessment included Clare demonstrating competence and technical knowledge with teaching 1 & 3/4 Front Somersaults and we congratulate her on successfully passing this module.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards for 2015 were held on Wednesday 25th March at Southampton Football Club. The awards showcased the high volume of talent in the area, and we were delighted that one of our members, Chloe Foster, was shortlisted for the Junior Volunteer of the Year accolade. Chloe was nominated for the time and commitment she has given to the local community, and the help she has given Alton Trampoline Club, from assisting with coaching to helping out at competitions. To then be shortlisted for the award by the Sports Council is testament to her effort.
The evening included stories from England Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Claire Purdy and British Darts World Champion “Scotty Dog” Mitchell, and was hosted by Kris Temple of BBC South Today, who took the time to talk to every person shortlisted.
Chloe was shortlisted along with Sophie Collins (Equestrian, Eastleigh) and Jessica Muller (Karate, Basingstoke). All three of these youngsters were all deserving of the award, have done a terrific job volunteering in their local communities. Sophie was eventually announced as the winner with Chloe as one of the runners-up. Well done to Chloe, and to Sophie and Jessica too, as being recognised is an outstanding achievement.
Congratulations to everybody who was shortlisted for an award. As well as Chloe’s fantastic achievement, special mention as well to our friends over at Swallows Trampoline Club, for joint winning the Club of the Year award, Basingstoke Gymnastics Club for the TeamGym members being runners-up for Senior Team, and to local resident Rory Simpson who was runner-up for Participation Coach in Handball.
Thank you to ‘Sport Hampshire & IOW’ for organising the event. A full rundown of the results and pictures can be found on their website.
Milton Keynes was the venue as members from Alton Trampoline Club made the 2-hour journey to compete in the final regional qualifier of the season.
16 competitors from Alton took part at all of levels of ability. In the NDP 1 category, notable performances included Jess, who managed to fully complete two routines for the first time in a Regional competition to the delight of her family who were there to support her. Emmeline and Claire showed considerable improvement to post their best scores to date, both hitting the qualifying score for Regional Finals, with Claire just 0.3 off of a podium place. Scott showed calm and composure to win his group for the 2nd competition running, and Courtney produced a terrific performance to win her first competition!
Recovering after errors in their first routines, Federica and James won 1st and 2nd place trophies in TPD Category 2 and NDP 3 respectively.
In the NDP 4 category, Ethan and Chloe both showed some excellent skills, with Ethan winning 2nd place and Chloe just 0.3 behind 3rd place.
Finally, competing in two high-scoring groups seemed to inspire Hattie and Katherine, as they both improved on their scores from the previous competition, with Hattie taking away the 2nd place trophy.
Well done to all of the gymnasts, and thank you to the parents and the volunteers who traveled up to officiate, marshall, and coach, allowing our members to show their skills and take part in the competition.

The National Schools Trampoline Finals were held today in Birmingham and we are proud to congratulate not one, but two National champions! Dan and Robert both came away as winners of their groups, with Alex winning 2nd place as well.
It was a journey that started back in December when all 3 of them competed in the Regional round in Alton, and then moved into the Zonal round in Oxford. After successfully coming through this, all three of the boys showed great courage to perform their routines in the Finals, where they were competing with pupils from all over the country. For Robert and Alex this was their first experience of a National competition and they coped with the experience magnificently.
A terrific accomplishment for all three of them: Dan representing South Downs College in the Under 19 Boys Category 2 Elite Category , Robert representing Perins School in the Under 14 Boys Category 1 Novice, and Alex representing Sun Hill Junior School in the Under 11 Boys Category 1 Novice.
Thanks must also go to their proud families, and to coaches Andy and Sylvia, who travelled up to Birmingham for them. Congratulations!!!

As the 2nd and final Regional Double Mini-Trampoline (DMT) competition took place over the weekend, our five competitors headed back down to Romsey to test their DMT skills and see if they could improve on their previous impressive performances.
Dexter was up first, looking to put his demons behind him after falling a couple of times at the last competition. He showed such improved confidence to successfully complete all four of his passes and win his group!
James somersaulted his way through two of his passes, but unfortunately failed to clear the DMT on his third pass so the coach had to push in the safety mat, resulting in him coming away with a silver medal.
Hattie and Stuart both showed the composure that won them medals at the last competition to clear all of their passes and win their respective groups.
Katherine topped off the day by showing substantial improvement in her skills, and could only improve her landings if she had put glue on her feet, as she held every single landing on the mat with minimal movement. This improvement was evident in her scores, as she came away with 2nd place and a score that stands her with a great chance of qualifying for the Regional Finals in May.
DMT Coach Sylvia was delighted, saying that all of the performers “did themselves and the club proud”.
We are pleased to inform all of our members that we have a new club training leotard available to purchase.
This short-sleeved leotard is available to both our Squad members and also to our recreational groups. It is black with an ‘Emerald Shimmer’ wave across the front and back (Boys leotards have the same design but in Emerald as opposed to ‘Emerald Shimmer’). Special thanks to A-Star leotards for this.
Please email us or speak to a coach at training if you are interested in purchasing one.
Please note that our Squad members are still expected to wear the competition leotard for regional and national events.

We were delighted to be able to partner with some local community groups this past weekend and offer Trampolining for some worthwhile causes.
Young carers from ‘The King’s Arms Youth Project’ (or “KA” for short) came over to Alton, where we offered their members an opportunity to try out Trampolining, with our coaches teaching them new skills. KA is a charity that does an excellent job in supporting the needs of young carers in Petersfield and the surrounding areas.
We travelled up to Basingstoke to spend the afternoon with children with disabilities from the Basingstoke GO! Club. Children from 8 to 18 all leapt and bounced and were delighted to be able to try out the trampolines. It was a lovely atmosphere with everyone enjoying themselves. They have written a lovely article about the afternoon on this link.
Both organisations do a terrific job and they work hard to provide help, support, and enjoyment to their young members. We were pleased to work together with them and hope to do so again in the future.
We are once again collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers. These can be collected up until 5th May 2015 and we will have a box available during training sessions for anyone who wants to add to our collection.
Last year we were able to purchase new benches with the vouchers that we collected, which have been of great benefit to the club. Thank you to everyone who has helped contribute vouchers.
The 2015 East Hampshire Sports Awards evening took place on Thursday 12th February and Alton Trampoline Club members were recognised for their commitments over the last year.
Dan Johnson and Chloe Foster were shortlisted for awards and attended the event, which was hosted by popular TV personality Fred Dinenage MBE. The evening opened with a motivating speech from Portsmouth FC manager Andy Awford, who spoke about overcoming hurdles to reach goals and how having the right attitude and determination gets rewarded with success. He relayed stories about his own career, how he suffered a number of setbacks due to injury, and how he managed to come back and build a successful career as a player, and then reaching high levels as a manager. He emphasised how very rarely success is achieved without overcoming a struggle at some point, but that perseverance makes it all worthwhile.
In the category of Junior Disability Sportsperson of the Year, Dan achieved Runner-Up, for the success he has achieved over the last year, coming 3rd at the British Championships, being selected for the GB Development Squad, and reaching the National Schools Finals taking place next month.
It was then read out that the winner of the Junior Volunteer of the Year… was Chloe! The trophy is awarded to someone under 18 who has shown enthusiasm, commitment, and has made a significant contribution through volunteering. Chloe has demonstrated all of these virtues, through the time she gives up to come into the Club and help, both through assisting with coaching to helping with events. Through her other volunteering work, she has also been selected as one of youngsters to represent the UK at the World Scouts Jamboree in Japan later this year. It was through all of this that Chloe was fully deserving of the accolade, to the thrill of her family and others in attendance.
The evening really emphasised the amount of talent and dedication shown by both groups and individuals in the area, and we congratulate both Chloe and Dan on their achievements and being chosen to be among the group of talent recognised.
Alton Trampoline Club competed in the first Regional Double Mini Trampoline competition of the year this past weekend, as Starlight hosted clubs from around the region at their new home in Romsey.
5 members of Alton Trampoline Club took part, and for most it was their first experience of a DMT competition. All of them showed great technique, performing skills on an area only a little bigger than a doormat than to achieve some strong results and come away with trophies.
Dexter was up first in the NDP 1 category and after collapsing when landing his very first pass, showed great character to continue and follow it up by successfully completed his next pass.
James and Hattie then competed in Levels 2 and 3 respectively and performed very well, sticking their landings. James came away with a 2nd place trophy while Hattie won her group.
Katherine, the most experienced member, having competed in one DMT competition prior to this, had to make sure that every skill she performed was a somersault. She proved to be up to test and 4 passes and 8 somersaults later she came away with a 2nd place trophy.
Finally, Stuart, returned to competing in DMT, and following a few dodgy warm-ups, proceeded to have an excellent contest with Nathaniel from Xcel. Both competitors impressed the spectators with their somersaults, and Stuart edged home to win gold.
DMT is still very much a new and growing discipline and with 26 entries, this was the largest Southern DMT competition to date. There were some excellent passes from Edgebarrow, Xcel, Alpha, and Starlight, making the performance of our members even more impressive.
